A getaway to write and reflect at the nature-filled and peaceful Pure Awareness Yoga and Retreat Centre.

Available spots: Maximum 18 Minimum 6 participants

A retreat to nourish you from the outside in using nature and movement and the inside out using writing, guided meditation, and reflection.
10:00 AM- 7:00 PM

A yoga and writing/journaling day retreat–no experience necessary as both yoga and writing are accessible to everyone.

On our day retreat, you will be invited to do what feels right as you nurture yourself and your writing project within the container of the retreat; whether you are a) reconnecting with yourself and your deepest creative desires, b) digging deeper on a current project or idea, c) refreshing and renewing your commitment to your writing, or d) embracing all of the above.

Writing support is offered through guided meditations, yoga practices, journaling/writing circles, and more while embracing the wild seclusion at Pure Awareness.

This day retreat is for you if you are looking to:

  • Revitalize a writing or creative project
  • Dig deeper on a writing project
  • Start a new writing or creative project
  • Spend a day with like-minded writers and take some time in nature by bookending your retreat with a sleepover in a peaceful local within close proximity to Edmonton (1.5 hours), Calgary (2 hours)

Your day retreat includes:

  • Opening Ceremony
  • 1 Yoga session including asanas, breath practices and guided meditations
  • 2 Daily journaling/writing circles
  • Private time to write or reflect
  • Forest walking trails
  • Meditation and reflection spaces
  • Closing Ceremony

*You may choose to extend your retreat with an overnight stay Friday and/or Saturday to write, immerse yourself in nature, star gazing, and take in all that the Pure Awareness property has to offer for an additional fee. Choose a Cabin ($160.00 per night sleeps up to 4) or Bell tent ($100.00 per night sleeps up to 2) with bedding included.

In order to keep costs down, this is a non-catered event – snacks, tea, and coffee are provided. You will need to bring your meals for the length of time you choose to stay, whether one night, the day only, or two nights. There is an open-air, but protected cooking/coffee station as well as a kitchen cabin equipped with the necessities.

For day retreaters only, we suggest packing a picnic lunch. Fresh well water available on site. Please bring your water container and a personal coffee/tea cup.

All are welcome whether you consider yourself a writer or not. If you have your own writing project, you are welcome to continue with it. Prompts and guided writing will be offered that are appropriate to different scenarios and will guide you in what I call free or wild writing. There will be free time when you may decide to reflect, to rest, to write, to hike, or explore. The choice is yours and will depend on the goals you have set for yourself for your retreat.

Although I continue to teach a few favourite graduate courses each year, I retired early from my tenured nursing professorship to live a more creative life encompassing yoga, arts, and writing about what is near and dear to my heart. I am a 500-hour RYT and predominantly teach yoga at special events, retreats, and on the beach in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
