ABOUT THE RETREAT

Hello Friends!

At its heart, this retreat combines “all-levels” Hatha yoga, meditation, and creative writing.

Retreat with us to deepen your wellness and ignite your creativity at Pictou Island Wooden Tents – One Wharf Road, Pictou Island, Nova Scotia.

  • Pictou Island Wooden Tents
  • Instructor: Kimberly Fraser
  • June 25 – 29, 2023
  • Only 12 Spots are Available

Join Kimberly on a 4-day journey that will help refresh and renew your commitment to yourself and your desires. Whether you want to revitalize, dig deeper, or start a whole new writing or creative project, there is no more conducive spot to do so than under the tutelage of Kimberly Fraser on idyllic Pictou Island. She will introduce you to the ways in which yoga and meditation can ignite your creative spark and facilitate the art of writing.

Kimberly brings principles of realignment into her yoga classes and believes that yoga is for everybody and every body. All are welcome; whether you consider yourself a writer, a yogi, or a meditator matters not. If you have begun a writing project, you are welcome to continue with it. If you simply want to commune with other writers while embracing the wild seclusion of Pictou Island, this is your opportunity. Daily prompts and guided writing appropriate to different scenarios will guide you in some free or wild writing. And, of course, there will be time each day to reflect, rest, write, hike, bike, or explore the nuances of this off-grid paradise. The choice is yours and will depend on the goals you have set for yourself for “your” retreat.

EXPERT INSTRUCTOR

A Little More About Your Retreat Facilitator – Kim Fraser – Yoga Instructor

Kimberly Fraser - Artisan - is wearing a denim jacket that she turned into a beautiful designer piece.Dr. Kimberly Fraser was raised in a fishing family near the shores of the Northumberland Strait and attended the first writer’s retreat at the Wooden Tents in 2017. She is a 500-hour RYT and published author of short works, books, and essays, who retired early from a tenured Nursing Professor role to live a more creative life in rural Strathcona County, Alberta, with her husband, launching son, and an ever-fluctuating cadre of pets. Her first book, The Accidental Caregiver, published by Sutherland House, came out in 2022. Kimberly was drawn to yoga for the physical aspects of the practice and, on the advice of her orthopedic surgeon, to treat long-term lower back pain. After two weeks of realignment/egoscue informed yoga sessions, she noticed a significant reduction in pain and a marked improvement in flexibility and movement. Within two months, she was nearly pain-free.

That life-altering experience led her to practice different yoga styles and to fully embrace the body-mind-soul benefits of yoga. She teaches yoga at special events and retreats and has certifications in pain care yoga, realignment, and yin.
